| Miniature
of Mehmet The Conqueror |
Turks had
the tradition of illustrating manuscripts during the cultural periods
before Islamic belief. The large quantities of stone engravings, textiles, ceramics and works of art made of metal, wood, leather survived to the present day from that time. The oldest examples of Turkish pictures
for walls are from the 6th, 7th and 8th centuries. The withering
influences of natural conditions have prevented the survival of
these first examples.
The colors in miniatures were obtained by mixing powdered dyes with egg-white. The colors were strikingly brilliant. Bright red, scarlet, green and different shades of blue were mostly used. Turkish
Art of Miniatures,
like the other handcrafts,
followed the
historical line of the state and
had
it's
golden age during the 16th century.
