Cinema had been introduced to Turkey a few months after the demonstration of Lumiere Brothers in 28 December 1895. The first film was shot by Fuat Özkinay in 1914, in the year which the Ottoman Empire had participated in the World War One (The Collapse of the Russian Monument in Ayastefanos), the first organization to produce a film was the Central Army Cinema Department leaded by Sigmund Weinberg and Fuat Özkinay. The film production started from here with the shooting of documentaries about the ongoing war in 1915 and although less in numbers, films with other themes were also carried out. The film “Istiklâl, İzmir Zaferi” (Independence, Izmir Victory) -1922, a major Independence War documentary, is assumed to be the "first example" of the Turkish Cinema.
