Eyup Mosque is the first mosque built after Ottomans conquered the city Istanbul. The mosque is situated outside the walls near the Golden Horn. Eyup who was the standard-bearer of the Prophet Mohammed, died here in an assault on Constantinople in 670.


Fatih Mosque is the site of Fatih Sultan Mehmet's, conqueror of Istanbul, mousoleum. The mosque was built between 1463 and 1470. It is notable for its vast size and a great complex of religious buildings around it. These buildings are theological schools, hospices, a hospital, baths, a caravanserai and a library.


Mihrimah Sultan Mosque is a mosque designed by Mimar Sinan. It was built in 1555 for Mihrimah Sultan, the daughter of Suleyman the Magnificent. The mosque is filled with an abundance of light since it has 161 windows.


Sokullu Mehmet Pasa Mosque, built in 16th century, is constructed on the slope of a hill below Sultanahmet Square. Reflecting classical Turkish architecture, this mosque was built by the famous architect Mimar Sinan. The pulpit and prayer niches are covered with beautiful Iznik tiles.


Suleymaniye Mosque is considered as the most beautiful of all imperial mosques in Istanbul. It was built by Mimar Sinan between 1550 and 1557. Suleyman the Magnificent and his wife are buried here. It is conspicuous by its great size; and it has four minarets each rising from a corner of the courtyard. The mihrab and the mimber inside the mosque are made of white marble.


Sultanahmet Mosque, known also as Blue Mosque, was built between 1609 and 1616. It faces St. Sophia and it is known as Blue Mosque because of its magnificent interior decoration of blue Iznik tiles.


Rustem Pasa Mosque is another wonder of famous architect Sinan. It was built in 1561 on the order of Rustem Pasa, Grand Vizier and son-in-law of Suleyman the Magnificient. The exquisite interior of the mosque is covered with finest examples of Iznik tiles.


Yeni Mosque is one of the best known sights of Istanbul. The mosque situated at Eminonu was built between 1597 and 1663. The fountain for ritual ablutions standing in the large courtyard is very attractive. The sultan's section is decorated with marvellous Iznik tiles.
