Jereed` is a competitive javelin game of horsemen played on horseback between two opposing teams. The players try to hit their opponents by throwing a wooden javelin. When a player hits one of the other horsemen, he gains a point. It is a part of entertainment that generally takes place during wedding ceremonies in villages. In the spring, horsemen wearing uniforms hold games for public performance.

Although Jereed is only seen in some parts of the Kars- Erzurum region and in the Aegean nowadays; this game was very popular all over Anatolia 50-60 years ago. The great interest of horse rising among Turkish people and their considerable success at it, turned first into an entertainment and later into a sport.
