One of the most important reasons of plant richness in Turkey is Anatolia’s being a shelter for plants during ice age. Today, Turkey is at the intersection point of 3 different plant areas which are not present in any of the European countries. These plant areas are the Mediterranean Plant Area (includes Mediterranean and Aegean regions), European - Siberian Plant Area (includes Black Sea and Marmara region), Iran - Turan Plant Area (includes Central Anatolia and Eastern Anatolia regions.).
