A Kütahya Vase
An Example of Kütahya Pottery
Kütahya (kur-TAHH-yah) rests beneath a ruined hilltop fortress in Aegean Turkey just about equidistant from Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Konya and Pamukkale. Kütahya is known for its beautiful colored tiles and pottery. Everybody here seems to be in the business of making or selling colored faience because this city has been the center of ceramic art in Turkey for centuries. The major historical sites in town are Ulu Cami (great Mosque) dating from 1410, a 16th-century market building, and a former medrese (theological seminary) dating from 1440.

Aizanoi Temple
Hungarian revolutionary hero Lajos Kossuth (1802-1851) fled to Kütahya when his revolt against the Hapsburgs was crushed by Russian troops. He lived here from 1850 to 1851 and his house is now a museum.
A Tile Plate
The Roman ruins at Aizanoi with their well preserved Temple of Zeus, next to village of Çavdarhisar are worth seeing as well. Please feel free to contact our office if you would like to discover more about the city of Kütahya...
